THIS PLACE IS WHO WE ARE-Stories of Indigenous Leadership, Resilience and Connection to Homelands
It was a beautiful evening and a beautiful place to celebrate the launch of this new book by author Katherine Palmer Gordon (who happens to be the communications and media lead for Nanwakolas).
Nanwakolas President Dallas Smith, who provided the Foreword for the book, Wei Wai Kum elected Chief Councillor Christopher Roberts, Nanwakolas Forestry Stewardship Project Coordinator Alex Thomas and Nuxalkmc Alkw Snxakila Dr. Clyde Tallio all joined Katherine at the Bill Reid Gallery in Vancouver on July 15th where a large audience enjoyed their thoughts and reflections on connection to place, Indigenous stewardship, and their hopes for the future.

Iron Dog Books, an Indigenous-owned bookshop and book truck dedicated to bringing great books to Səl̓ilwətaɁɬ, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm territories, sold copies of the book (all royalties are being donated to the Indigenous-led Coast Funds Conservation Fund to support Indigenous stewardship efforts in the Great Bear Rainforest). This Place is Who We Are, which features many other Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw First Nations citizens as well, is available from independent bookstores or directly from Harbour Publishing. Gilakas’la!
