Guardian Watchmen Gather on Quadra Island

Ha-ma-yas Lands Training Waters

Stewards from northern Vancouver Island and beyond had a week of knowledge sharing and capacity building at Hakai’s ecological observatory.

In May on Quadra Island, the Hakai Institute was proud to host a gathering of 21 people from the Ha-ma-yas Stewardship Network. These annual gatherings bring together Guardian Watchmen from the member Nations of the Nanwakolas Council to build capacity, review survey techniques and develop new skills. Special guests from the Caribou Guardianship Initiative in the Northwest Territories also shared their knowledge and experiences.

Scott Harris of the Nanwakolas Council compiled a report with additional information from the gathering, which was supported by Nature United.
